Sex – Love – Compassion
16Apr08
These three fall along a continuum.
Sex may be, but is not necessarily, loving.
Love may be, but is not necessarily, compassionate.
Compassion may, but not necessarily, encompass sex or love, either or both.
We tend to use the word “love” for all three, but this is nothing but ambiguous and a source of confusion.
Sex is animal; love is human; compassion is the connection between all things.

Hey, glad you’re posting–I hadn’t given up!
Hi, Quotesqueen. I suppose if one is going to start a blog one ought to be serious about keeping it up.
Thanks for reading anyway; I’ll try to make a better effort.
As a matter of fact, I have been concentrating more recently on getting up a blog for the local sangha with which I participate, and most of my blogging focus for at least the near future is likely to be on that. If you’re interested, it’s at heartoftheblueridgesangha.wordpress.com. Although my own personal interests are a bit broader, our sangha focuses on the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, whom I believe you said has a special appeal to you.
You asked about Plumline; I look at it from time to time, but don’t participate actively. You mentioned your reticence about participating in a sangha. I’d highly recommend it if you can swing it. I too am more introverted than not; and the sangha is a perfect place for introverts – very thought-provoking but with no pressure to perform; it would depend on the structure of your local sangha, of course, but I should think the whole notion of sangha is contrary to such pressure.
And BTW I’m a collector of quotations too, so your blog also has a special appeal to me. Keep up the good work!
